This year’s Funds Industry Football Charity Shield to take place on 21st May

Calastone, the global funds transaction network, today announced it is celebrating thefifth anniversary of the Funds Industry Football Charity Shield. The football tournament for the UK fund management industry has cemented itself as one of the industry’s most anticipated sporting events.

With spaces in high demand, the participating teams already signed up include Architas, Ascentric, Friends Life, Henderson, IFDS, Invesco, Interactive Data, Investec, J O Hambro, Novia, Raymond James, Northern Trust, Sarasin and last year’s winner, Citywire, as well as others. With the event celebrating its fifth anniversary, there is fierce yet friendly competition for the coveted trophy and to raise vital funds for this year’s chosen charities – Chance to Grow and Harrison’s Fund. The tournament, scheduled to take place on 21st May at the Lucozade Powerleague in Shoreditch, London, has raised more than £50,000 over the past four years.

Harrison’s Fund is named after eight-year-old Harrison Smith from Surrey who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a fatal genetic condition which affects the muscles, causing muscle weakness. The charity’s goal is to get as much money as possible into the hands of the world’s best researchers, who are working to find a cure for Duchenne.

Founder of Harrison’s Fund, Alex Smith, said: “We are thrilled and hugely grateful to be chosen by Calastone to benefit from this fantastic event. The efforts of Calastone and all those taking part in the Funds Industry Football Charity Shield are so appreciated and any funds raised will go a long way to supporting the research to ensure this generation of boys will be the last to die from this disease.”

Chance to Grow empowers disadvantaged young people in Kitale, Kenya to improve their lives and create positive change for future generations. Founder, Ben Margetts, added: “We can not thank Calastone enough for choosing us as a charity for theirfifth Funds Industry Football Charity Shield. Any funds raised from this year’s event will go towards the completion of the ground floor of a two-storey, four-bedroom dormitory, significantly improving the quality of life for the orphans within the home and school.”

Julien Hammerson, Chief Executive Officer of Calastone, said: “We are enormously proud to be celebrating the fifth annual Funds Industry Football Charity Shield. The demand to participate in this event demonstrates how highly an anticipated fixture the tournament has become in the funds industry calendar. Not only is it a lot of fun for everyone involved but also a great opportunity for the industry to come together to make a real difference to the work of both Harrison’s Fund and Chance to Grow.”
